Hello! Thank you for enquiring about Shockwave Therapy
The Swiss Dolorclast Radial Shockwave machine has been clinically proven to help:
Heel pain (plantar fasciitis, Achillies tendonopathy)
Tennis & Golfers Elbow
Shoulder Pain (rotator cuff tendinopathy, calcific tendinitis, subacromial bursitis, frozen shoulder)
Hip Pain (trochanteric bursitis, proximal hamstring tendinopathy)
Knee Pain (patellar tendinopathy, Osgood-Schlatters disease, iliotibial band friction syndrome, osteoarthritis)
Shin Splints
Myofascial trigger points
Shockwave Therapy involves the use of high energy acoustic shockwaves to treat chronic, persistent or recurring painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system.
A shockwave is an intense but very short energy wave travelling faster than the speed of sound. Shockwaves are transmitted via a handpiece held against the skin. The body responds with increase metabolic activity around the painful site. It has been clinically proven to:
Reduce pain
Increase Blood Circulation
Stimulate & Accelerate Healing

Shockwave accelerates the healing process by activating the body's self-healing processes - particularly in cases where the body has been unable to do this on its own. It stimulates bloodflow which enables damaged tissue to regenerate and eventually heal itself. Shockwave also has a direct effect on nerves in the painful area and relieves pain by producing an analgesic effect. It is most effective when a condition has become chronic (more than 3 months) as it is able to 'jump-start' the healing process by moving it back to the acute phase of healing and stimulating the body's inherent self-healing processes.
The body reacts to Shockwave in the following ways:
Release of 'substance P' | causing a natural pain killing effect
Creating new blood vessels | to the tendon/injured area - tendons have a poor blood supply, so anything that increased it will have a powerful healing effect
Causes paracrine effects | good proteins to come to the injured area which promotes healing
The short answer... no. But keep in mind, no medical intervention has a 100% success rate. Clinical research has documented an 80% improvement in chronic conditions when rest, cortisone and conservative therapies have failed.
In our experience and our own interpretation of all the available evidence, best outcomes are achieved when Shockwave is used in conjunction with Physiotherapy, a home exercise program and activity modification to remove aggravating activities.
It is often the last 'roll of the dice' before a surgical intervention.

Treatment over lung tissue
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive therapy and there are no negative side-effects. Sometimes treatment is a bit painful, but most people can withstand a few minutes of treatment. The Shockwave machine can be adjusted to a level you can tolerate. Pain during treatment illustrates the shockwaves are having a positive effect. As a general rule, the more 'pain' you can feel, the better the treatment outcome.
It is usual to experience immediate pain relief and increased movement post-treatment, but a mild and diffused pain may occur a few hours later. This can last a day or so (just like post-treatment soreness after a Physio session).
Clinical research recommends 5 sessions of Shockwave over 5 weeks to achieve the best results. Due to the intense nature of treatment, only 5 minutes of treatment is necessary to get the therapeutic benefits.
After your FREE Initial Assessment to ascertain your suitability for Shockwave, your health investment to undergo treatment is the cost of a standard Physiotherapy consultation plus a $60 surcharge. A surcharge is necessary to cover the high operating costs of the Shockwave machine as well as the additional treatment time with the Physio.
You can, but all the research shows it is a combination of Physiotherapy, home exercise program, activity modification, assistive aids and Shockwave is what gets the best long-term outcomes. If after your FREE assessment, you decide you still just want the Shockwave treatment, this will be billed at the regular standard consultation fee.
